March 4-6th, 2001 - 25 Years Later
The March 4-6th, 2001 Blizzard lives in infamy as a major and crippling snowstorm for some and one of the most brutal busts of all time for others. 25 years ago this storm gripped the media and was predicted to be the worst blizzard since 1978 or possibly worse. Everyone was on alert to a storm that could be measured in feet, not inches. Schools and businesses closed down for days in preparation for the storm. However, warmer air and track farther north cut back snowfall amou

Winter 25-26 Season Snowfall Through March 2nd
Winter 2025-2026 has certainly made up the deficit of snow we've been missing over the past three years. We've seen at least one significant (6"+) snowfall for each month of meteorological winter (Dec, Jan, Feb) with many smaller snow events peppered throughout. March is a very volatile month with winter still fighting to hold on and spring fighting to take over. We can easily see temperatures sore into the 70s and 80s and have multiple chances for winter storms. It's not ove

Light snow Friday night/ Snow squalls Saturday AM followed by Bitter Cold Saturday and Sunday.
Snow is anticipated to begin on Friday night between 6:00 and 8:00 PM, gradually moving eastward. By Saturday morning, approximately one inch of snow is expected. However, a band of heavy snow squalls is predicted to arrive around daybreak, potentially adding an additional coating to one inch of snow on Saturday morning. In Eastern Connecticut, the snow may persist due to the formation of a narrow band of snow known as an "inverted trough," which could result in 2 to 4 inches

Snow Showers/Squalls Friday Night into Saturday followed by Bitter Cold Wind Chills for the Weekend.
Light snow is expected overnight from Friday into Saturday, with accumulations ranging from a coating to two inches possible across the state. The snowfall is anticipated to conclude by Saturday morning; however, snow squalls may occur throughout the day due to an arctic cold front passing through the region. Additionally, there is a slight possibility that snow could persist into Saturday afternoon if an "Inverted Trough" develops, providing further enhancement. On Saturday,

Well, winter 25-26 has an answer for that, as this season has been off to a rockin' start. With a favorable upper air pattern and plenty of cold air around, there's been no shortage of winter storms through December and January. As of early February we are about at the halfway poin

15 Years Ago: January 2011 Blizzard
Exactly 15 years ago today, Connecticut was experiencing one of the biggest snowstorms on record. The January 11-12th, 2011 blizzard was a powerful nor'easter that hit the state with heavy snow and whiteout conditions. While this was a record breaking storm in terms of snowfall totals, the impact the storm created wasn't nearly as bad as you might think. Storms like the Blizzard of '78 and '96 were much more devastating in nature. There were a few reasons for this, most notab
