December 26-27th Snowstorm Retrospective & Verification
The December 26-27th, 2025 Snowstorm played out very close to what we had predicted across many variables including timing, snowfall rates and total snowfall amounts. Let's take a brief look at some of these factors as the storm unfolded. Snow broke out before 5pm in these areas and quickly became heavy. In Connecticut we forecasted the

New Years Eve Light Snow (Updated) ❄️
Wednesday Noon Update: The forecast tonight is still on track for a cold and snowy New Years Eve. Light snow enters the area a few hours before midnight but the bulk of the accumulating snow should occur around and after midnight. Models are now hinting at the possibility of an intense snow squall line that passes through Connecticut between 4-6AM. This line of snow showers could enhance snowfall and put down another coating to an inch. All in all, we are still looking at a c

23 Years Ago: Christmas 2002 Blizzard
It's not that often we see a region wide legitimate snowstorm on Christmas Day. But that's exactly what happened, 23 years ago today. A classic strong nor'easter brought heavy snow, sleet, rain and wind to much of the Northeast. Several inches of snow fell from New York City to Boston with over a foot well to the north. Since this storm there's only been one other Christmas snowfall to impact a part of New England, though of much lesser intensity. December 25-26th, 2002 Surf

Light Snow Coming Tuesday...Winter Storm Post Christmas?
We are monitoring another light snow event approaching Connecticut. Like the Sunday storm last week, we will see some more light accumulations. The early onset of snow is likely to result in school closures and/or delays throughout the state, mainly inland. The immediate shoreline and lower elevations along I-91 may have a difficult time accumulating snow, therefore we don't expect closures here, possibly delays. Northeast Overview for Tuesday, December 23rd Tuesday Details:

Will Tuesday's snow be enough for a White Christmas? Your towns odds listed below.
It's starting to look like another snow day is coming on Tuesday. A weak area of low pressure will reorganize south of Long Island on Tuesday. This system will spread periods of light to moderate snow across the state on Tuesday. There is still a good amount of uncertainty regarding snow amounts and timing as well as temperatures, especially along the shore. As of now plan for snow in the air, with accumulations likely especially on colder surfaces and elevated areas. Th

16 Years Ago: December 2009 Blizzard
On this date, 16 years ago , Southern New England and the Tri-State Area was getting pummeled by strong winds and heavy snowfall that created blizzard and white-out conditions. After all was said and done, a wide swath of 1-2 feet+ fell on SE Massachusetts, all of Rhode Island, SE CT through Long Island and Southern New Jersey. This storm is what we call an "I-95 special" due to the fact it heavily impacted areas near I-95 and southeast, leaving the Berkshires in MA and NW CT

December 14th Snowstorm Retrospective
The first accumulating snow for most of the region played out very close to what we expected. Snow moved into the region from SW to NE just before midnight. Some areas right along the coast and especially across Long Island and NYC started as a rain or a rain/snow mix. Everyone changed over to all snow and the rates picked up overnight into the early morning hours as the system gained strength south of us. The heaviest snow occurred just before daybreak and into the early mor

This December has experienced significantly cold temperatures, with readings ranging from 8 to 10 degrees below the state average during the first half of the month. First Widespread Accumulating Snow of the Season
The first widespread accumulating snow of the season is knocking on our doorstep in less than 24 hours. Now, before everyone gets too excited (or concerned) this won't be a classic New England nor'easter with high winds and very heavy snow. Rather, we are looking at an overall light event with a couple to a few inches of snow for most of the area. The National Weather Service has already issued a Winter Weather Advisory for coastal Connecticut as well as coastal MA, RI, south

Rain and snow will develop from west to east across the region Tuesday morning after daybreak. Wet snow will quickly change to a cold rain for most of the area. The heaviest precipitation will fall between 10am and 6pm. However, those that stay snow for longer near the Mass border will see potential accumulations on the order of 1-3" - several inches of snow are likely in the Litchfield and Hartford County hills. Seven years ago today on November 15th, 2018 , an early season snowstorm struck the Northeast and paralyzed traffic. Most of the Tri-State Area and Southern New England saw a general 6-10" of snow.
