Winter 2025-2026 is finally completed and in the rear view mirror. Cold, snowy, stormy, are all adjectives that can be used to describe this past brutal winter here in the Northeast. Something we haven't experienced in several years, at least since 2020-2021. Across the board we've seen above average snowfall for all of the record keeping sites and in some cases well above normal. Meteorological winter (Dec 1-Feb 28) also had below normal temperatures for all of the sites from Newark to Boston. Let's take a look at some of the average temperatures for this winter (Dec-Feb) across the area.
Location (Airport Code) - Mean temp/Normal mean temp/Departure from normal
Bridgeport, CT (BDR) - 29.9F/33.8F/-3.9F
Windsor Locks, CT (BDL) - 25.6F/29.7F/-4.1F
New York, NY (NYC) - 31.9F/36.2F/-4.3F
Islip, NY (ISP) - 30.6F/34.1F/-3.5F
Newark, NJ (EWR) - 31.7F/35.3F/-3.6F
Providence, RI (PVD) - 28.3F/32.5F/-4.2F
Boston, MA (BOS) - 29.3F/32.5F/-3.2F
Worcester, MA (ORH) - 23.9F/27.9F/-3.5F
Here are the final seasonal snowfall maps for winter 2025-2026 with statistics for Southern New England & the Tri-State Area. Most sites ranged from just over 100% (normal) to nearly 200% (well above normal) snowfall. The most extreme departure was Islip, NY (ISP) at 194%. The closest to near normal was Windsor Locks (BDL) at 102%.

And finally the 25-26 seasonal snowfall map for the Lower Northeast. This is the first winter with above normal snowfall region wide since winter 2020-21, but is more on par with winter 2017-18.
