Very active wintry weather is coming up this week starting tomorrow. A weak area of low pressure will develop along a front south of the area and slide southeast. This will bring light rain and mixed precipitation starting after daybreak Wednesday. Surface temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s tomorrow which allow most of the state to see plain rain. As the afternoon and evening progresses temperatures will fall into the low to mid 30s and precipitation will begin to change over to a mixture of rain, sleet and snow, especially in northern Connecticut. The southern half of the state should remain mostly rain but we can't rule out some light sleet or snow, especially towards the tail end. All precipitation comes to end before midnight. Right now the best chance for accumulating snow is near the Mass boarder and drops off sharply as you head south to the shoreline.

Another disturbance enters the region Friday with more wintry precip. This time, the system appears colder with a better chance for snow, sleet and ice. Once again the best chance for this will be farther north with mostly mixed snow, ice and rain near the shore. A few inches of snow appears likely for the northern four counties with the possibility of a coating to an inch or so of snow south of there. This system is still a few days out so we will have an update regarding snowfall amounts on Wednesday.

A third and much more potent storm is possible for Sunday into Monday. A significant coastal storm will develop off the Delmarva Peninsula and move E/NE. Depending on the exact track and intensity of the system will determine snowfall amounts, if any, for Sunday into Monday. What we do know, is temperatures will be cold enough for an all-snow event with no mixed precipitation or rain this time. The storm is still about 5 days out but there is the possibility for significant amounts of snow, stay tuned.
