The first significant statewide snowfall is expected to commence between 5-7 PM this evening.
The snow will move in rapidly, with anticipated snowfall rates of 1-3 inches per hour during a three-hour period from approximately 7-10 PM. These snowfall rates are substantial and will likely create hazardous conditions on the roads. All major highways and roadways are expected to be covered with a thick layer of snow this evening. Travel is not recommended after 6 PM in western Connecticut and after 8 PM in eastern Connecticut.
Snowstorm Headlines:

Temperatures:
This will be a cold snowstorm, with temperatures ranging from 15-25 degrees across the state. There is no concern about a rain/snow line due to the abundance of cold air. The snow will be fluffy, accumulating quickly due to favorable snow growth and flake size.

The snowfall is expected to conclude between 4-7 AM, with most accumulation occurring before midnight. Overnight, blowing and drifting snow will make cleanup more challenging early tomorrow morning. Temperatures will struggle to reach the 20s on Saturday.
In response to a northern shift in models and overall snowier forecast, The National Weather Service has expanded Winter Storm Warnings to now include most of the state, with Tolland and Windham under an advisory for slightly less snow, in the 3-6" range.

Our final forecast predicts most of the state will receive 6-10 inches of snow, with eastern CT seeing 3-6 inches. Some areas in western Connecticut may receive a localized 11 or 12 inches under the heaviest banding. This storm could be the most significant snowfall event for CT in since the February 13th, 2024 Snowstorm in CT that left a wide swath of 8-16". Stay safe and warm and enjoy your Friday night!
