Hot summer weather is finally arriving in Connecticut and most of the Northeast. So far this year we've seen temperatures that are generally near or below normal with little spikes in warm or hot days. Well, that's about to change this weekend and into early next week. Our first hot day, and likely first day in the 90s for some, will be on Thursday. Connecticut will be in a warm sector which will allow hot and humid air to surge north. To our west a cold front will be approaching during the afternoon and evening which will bring along with it showers and thunderstorms. Friday and Saturday offer some relief from the heat but temperatures will gradually climb back into the 90s on Sunday/Monday. The hottest day of the period, and the year, will likely be on Tuesday with temperatures approaching 100F. Factor in the heat and humidity and it will feel like 105-110F.

The forecast above is for Hartford, CT but most areas away from the shore will experience similar temps. Thursday and Sunday through Monday look to be the hottest days right now. A "heat wave" is generally defined in our area as three or more consecutive days above 90 degrees. So, right now, a true heat wave does appear likely.

The above forecast for Bridgeport can also be applied if you live along or within a few miles of the shoreline. Temperatures here won't be quite as hot but we're still talking 90s for most and with the heat indices near or over 100F. Keep in mind the normal high temperature for this time of year is only in the upper 70s to around 80.
We are approaching astronomical summer in just a few days which means the sun will be at it's highest point overhead for the year. This, along with the overall setup will help to really peak temperatures near 100 degrees. Some records may even fall over the next week at official airport sites. Stay tuned, we will have updates for this unseasonable hot and humid weather going forward.
The National Weather Service has issued Extreme Heat Warnings for most of Connecticut for heat indices up to 110F. Actual air temperatures will be around 100F on Monday and Tuesday.
