Only a little over a year after the October snow bomb of 2011, the Northeast was bracing for yet another early season snowstorm. Heavy snow, rain and wind impacted the region that was still recovering from Hurricane Sandy a week earlier. The storm, dubbed "Son of Sandy", dumped widespread significant snowfall down to the coast with some areas in Connecticut receiving over a foot.

Precipitation began in the form of snow and rain during late morning and early afternoon for the Tri-State Area and quickly changed to all snow right down the coast. Heavy snow set up in a strong band from just east of NYC into SW Connecticut and up to south central Massachusetts. Winds began to increase and gust over 30mph for most of the area. The combination of strong winds, rain and wet snow caused tens of thousands of power outages across Connecticut and New Jersey.
