Sunday January 24th 4pm Blog update :

There are some changes to the forecast as things are becoming more clear for the upcoming week. The storm for Tuesday/Wednesday is trending a bit snowier as we speak, we are now looking at a potential long duration light to moderate snow from Tuesday through Wednesday with much of the state potentially seeing a few inches of snow; there is an outside chance for several inches of snow a band of heavier snow develops. The maps below show our GFS and EURO ensemble system that we use (which is an average of 71 different model scenarios). The ensembles are now suggesting a 70-90% chance of 1" or more of snow and 30-50% chance of 3" or more across a good chunk of CT. I've attached the odds of 3" or more, you can see the GFS model is more robust with a 50% chance at 3" or more especially in western CT. While not a big storm, we should see a prolonged period of wintry conditions from early Tuesday into late Wednesday with periods of accumulating snow.

The storm threat for Thursday is really fading quickly. Odds yesterday for some accumulating snow were 1 in 3. Now odds are less than 10% , the maps below of the GFS and EURO ensembles show this well.

After these threats, our next wintry threat is late next weekend, finally an active pattern to keep us weathermen busy! Stay tuned for more updates tomorrow!
