We have a Multi-Hazard Major Winter storm moving into CT this afternoon through Sunday. Let's time it all out for you here...

As a deepening area of low pressure will be positioned well to our west with cold air over New England, snow will break out over CT between 2-4pm Saturday. The snow will be moderate to briefly heavy at times before mixing with and changing to ice between 10pm and 2am from south to north. Total accumulations will range from 2" in southern Fairfield county, to as much as 5" + inland especially near the Massachusetts border.

This low pressure will be forced to reform just south of CT overnight and Sunday morning. Just how far south it reforms is the key to our forecast.

The quicker and further south it reforms will keep interior CT below freezing, thus more dangerous icing. The slower and further north it reforms will allow for a quicker change to plain rain and less icing.

We will take a blend of the possible solutions and forecast freezing rain to change to plain rain at the shore between midnight at 2am, merritt parkway 2am-4am, south of 84 4am-6am, Northern hills after 6am, highest hills may not make it above freezing.

Icing could be significant north of the merritt .25"+ with damaging ice possible north of 84 .5"+ .. Any earlier reformation trends or south trends in this storm would bring more icing to a larger part of the state.

Heavy rain could cause some serious ponding of water on roadways south of 84 combined with snow melt. Temps will briefly spike to near 50 degrees tomorrow PM along with some torrential rain.

Behind the rain winds will be an issue after 6pm with a High Wind Watch for winds gusts up to 60mph through Monday. Power outages may be a big issues especially if the colder icing scenarios do unfold.

After this storm all eyes will be on Thursday as a large Nor'Easter is possible. This has the potential to be a big one... Have some maps for Thursday posted below.. Stay tuned
