It's been a pretty quiet January in terms of sensible weather. No warm-ups, no cold shots, only a dusting of snow. The pattern was set up for a series of snow storms, however, we had too much High Pressure in Canada which forced storms well to our south.
A transient shot of cold air moves in this weekend with below average temperatures expected through Monday morning, however we rebound to average to above average by Monday afternoon and the extended forecast.
In terms of precipitation, we are watching 3 periods of interest.
The first storm is Monday night through Tuesday, the same pattern responsible for pushing storms to our south is still in place, however, indications are this storm may hold on just enough to give us a light to moderate accumulation of snow, especially west of I-91.
We are giving areas west of I-91 a 50% chance at plowable snow. This storm has a ceiling of 4-8" over parts of the state, and also has a chance to completely miss us, right now we are favoring light accumulations.
A much more potent storm will be tracking across the southern states mid to late next week, yet again, the persistent pattern is forecast to push this storm well to our south and potentially deliver a major snowstorm to the Mid-Atlantic states, there is still plenty of time to figure out this storm, and for it to trend north or south, we will keep you posted.
One more storm in the pipeline for the start of February, which we will start to look at as we get closer.
